Ocean Ridge Men’s Golf
Men’s golf at Ocean Ridge consists of competitive play, casual play and monthly away golf outings. The Ocean Ridge Men’s Golf Association, ORMGA, conducts competitive play under the USGA Rules of Golf. ORMGA was founded in the interest of providing a congenial competitive golfing environment for players of all levels. ORMGA has established a formal set of by laws and has a member elected executive team consisting of a president, vice president, secretary and treasurer. Elected officers may serve in a position for a maximum of 2 years. A list of officers may be found at:   Ocean Ridge Contacts.
General membership business meetings are held quarterly at the Plantation Club. These meetings provide a business and social forum for our membership to discuss the business of ORMGA and to expand our growing friendships. Our annual banquet is held in November. Membership dues are $10.00 for new members and $5.00 to renew each year thereafter.
ORMGA plays regularly on early Tuesday mornings and mid-day Thursday. There is a $2.00 entry fee for each event that makes up the prize pool for that event. A golf chairman is responsible for each day’s competition. The chairperson names may also be found at:   Ocean Ridge Contacts.
In
addition to the regular weekly play, ORMGA schedules a number of special
tournaments, each with its own entry fee.
It runs the Ocean Ridge men’s club championship, and in concert with
Ocean Ridge, the annual member guest event for all Ocean Ridge property
owners. Special tournament chairmen change yearly.
ORMGA Weekly Play: ORMGA members sign up for
weekly play on sheets posted on the bulletin board in the men’s restroom in the
Lion’s Paw/Panther’s Run clubhouse.
Deadlines for entering regular weekly events are 72 hours prior to the
event date. The sign up sheets are
removed on the Saturday preceding the Tuesday event and on the Monday preceding
the Thursday event. Our chairmen then
make up the pairings and determine the event to be played on any given
day.
A
vast majority of our events are team based.
Teams consist of 1 player from four handicap categories, ABCD, derived
from the pool of players for a particular event; A players consisting of the
lowest 25% of handicaps entered for an event, B players consisting of the next
lowest 25% of handicaps, etc. Teams are
then made up by the day’s chairman with an eye toward equalizing the total
combined team handicap to insure a balanced competitive field. (Occasionally there may be individual or
team events by flight). Tee times are assigned and the players are notified by
email of the pairings and tee times the day prior to the event. The events are designed to involve all team
members in the scoring but not necessarily require every player to contribute
on every hole. At the conclusion of
play, members assemble in the clubhouse lounge of the course being played to share
the day’s experiences and await the announcement of the winners of the day’s
competition.
Members
find this format attractive for many reasons including:
·
It
offers the opportunity to meet and play with new people.
·
It
mixes players of different skill levels, which affords newer players the
opportunity to learn from more experienced players.
·
It
provides a competitive environment, offering each player an opportunity to
contribute to the team’s success, while in most events, not requiring a player
to play well on every hole.
·
It
fosters a spirit of sportsmanship and competition.
ORMGA Special Events: A number of special events
are conducted throughout the year. Many
are patterned after world famous tournaments such as the Masters, US Open and
Ryder Cup. Sign up sheets with event
description are posted on the bulletin board in the men’s restroom in the
Lion’s Paw/Panther’s Run clubhouse.
Casual Play - Centurions: Organized casual play is conducted on Monday, Wednesday and Friday with the focus being recreational golf, having fun, and meeting new people. Sign up sheets are posted on the bulletin board in the men’s restroom in the Lion’s Paw/Panther’s Run clubhouse. This format provides an excellent learning venue for people new to the game as well as a convenient way to quickly meet your fellow golfing neighbors. A social event is scheduled approximately every six weeks for golfers and their spouses in a non-golfing environment.
To
participate in casual play simply sign up the week prior to the scheduled play
week. Starting times are booked
following Ocean Ridge tee time procedures for bookings and cancellations. Starting times are posted on the bulletin
board. There are no entry fees or dues
requirements for this activity. Social
events are priced based on the cost of the particular scheduled activity.
Away Golf: Each month, we have an
opportunity to visit one of our neighboring courses at an attractive group
rate. Sign up sheets for these events
are posted on the main bulletin board in the Lion’s Paw/Panther’s Run
clubhouse. Teams are designated
(similar to ORMGA format) by our away golf chairman Kurt Lindstrom (575-1625)
and a fun competitive event is arranged.
The event entry fee is typically $2.00.
Your
fellow Ocean Ridge Men Golfers welcome you to Ocean Ridge Plantation. We hope you will join us for some fun and
competition on our golf courses. For
those wishing to join ORMGA, a membership application is provided at:  Membership Applications.
